Welcome to S G Prescott & Sons

Wold House

We farm over 400 Ha on the Yorkshire wolds, most of our land is over lying chalk, with a little flint in the shallower land. We have one farm on clay at Scorborough, which keeps us in touch with reality. Our crops are 174 Ha of winter wheat, 95 Ha oilseed rape, 65 Ha barley winter and spring, 19 Ha of peas, and the remainder being sown down to grass. We have a Hesston baler with which we bale a proportion of our straw for a few loyal customers and a 34 tonne artic with which we deliver our produce to local mills.

Woldsman Red Poll Herd

The Woldsman Herd of Red Poll Calttle was founded in 1953 by Leonard and Stephen, with in calf heifers from the Kirton, Fanton, Melton and Barnsfold Herds, with maiden heifers comming from the Lowpark Herd (in those days primarily for milking, which we ceased in 1978). Also a bull was purchased from the Pocklington Herd. From this stock along with cafefully chosen sires, our herd has grown to a 100 strong single suckled herd of international standing

Zero Tillage Drill

We imported the Cross slot drill earlier this year after seeing it working on our brother-in-laws farm in New Zealand over the past eight years. Being on Wold land we are keen to improve our soil structure, reduce wear and hopefully improve yield. We have bought it as a demonstrator and have just returned from a demonstration in Norway. With up to 550kgs of pressure on each coulter and with vertical independent coulter movement of 450mm allowing the coulters to follow the ground contours, this drill is totally unique.
